The Role – Field Service Manager

The Field Service Manager will undertake a key role in this organisation’s Traffic Solutions business, managing their field-based technicians within the Surrey, Berkshire and North Hampshire.

Your responsibilities will also extend to managing customers, including full profit & loss responsibility for the contract, ensuring processes and procedures are followed, resource allocation and requirements are delivered to the planned time schedule. The role is based in the North West, and will involve regular local travel to customer offices and sites. Full responsibilities include:

To plan, organise, direct, co-ordinate and control Field Service activity within the North West of England. To develop and lead an effective, well-motivated and flexible team that understands the Company's aims and strives to achieve them. To maintain an ethos of Think Customer and customer service, that meets the Company Objectives and complies with their mission statement.

  • Ensure health and safety is considered first, and best practice is followed, in every situation.
  • Be a champion of the environment, quality and process compliance.
  • Meet customer targets and expectations by the most cost effective use of resources.
  • To develop new and existing relationships based on trust, integrity and delivery.
  • Meet financial targets for revenue, margin, recoveries, costs, EBIT and stock control.
  • To provide accurate monthly forecasts and contribute to annual budget setting.
  • Manage, develop and motivate staff to achieve their potential.
  • Conduct regular meetings with direct reports and with the team.
  • Conduct on site audits and ensure direct reports meet their schedules for auditing.
  • Ensure the provision of management information in the form and timescale agreed.
  • To monitor performance, interpret statistics and to act as appropriate to achieve continual improvement.

Your Background – Field Service Manager

Ideally you have experience of managing field-based teams in an engineering environment, with a strong focus on customer relationship management and good people management skills, along with an appreciation of health & safety principles.

  • Educated ideally in science, engineering, business or management.
  • Profit and loss responsibility, understanding and interpreting management finance information.
  • Management of people, ideally in a field based service engineering capacity.
  • Customer relationship management.
  • Reporting and presenting internally and externally using formal and informal methods.
  • Influencing colleagues and others outside of your direct reporting line.
  • Use of planning / programming tools to manage own workload and that of your department.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory and safety requirements.
